Let's review
Since moving back to the US in 2000 (as computers, especially Macs, were prohibitively expensive in New Zealand) I have legitimately purchased:
-a 500MHz iBook
-a 1.33GHz iBook G4
-a 2.5GHz Macbook Pro
However, on account of frequent hardware failures requiring extensive mail-in repair service in all of the above machines, I have received for free:
-an 800MHz iBook G4
-a 2.0GHz Macbook

When Apple does something retarded, immediately call Applecare and ask to speak to Customer Relations. But I think maybe AT&T’s work on its 850MHz network on the east coast actually worked?
I have been gone for about four months, but since I’ve been back it hasn’t been nearly as crappy as I remember. Voice coverage sounds better, and I have consistent 3G coverage - often five bars.
Or could the 3GS radio be that much better? I did have a 3G when I left.
Who knows.
