Clients From Hell: The Forbidden Fruit →
Client: Hey, just one final question before I send the deposit. Do you use a PC or a MAC?
Me: I use a MAC.
Client: That is a problem. Do you have access to a PC? I am not a supporter of Apple products.
Me: No, I don’t have access to a PC, but this will have little to no effect on the work…

This is a continuation of my earlier thought: I am sick of the inside of the Silicon Valley bubble. It’s time to get away. Far away. Not forever, but for a while. Some years.
Question #2: How long? Oh sure, during school it’s all well and dandy doing semesters abroad and even stretch the whole thing to its logical conclusion by going to grad school in Far Far Away. But where and when...

I was trying to remember this the other day for a friend who is a new Mac owner. Could not do it for the life of me. Thanks.

Start-ups still don't know the way to San Jose →
I had definitely noticed this: the smaller a tech company is, the further north (away from my house) I have to drive. The exception, of course, is the particular flavor of startup that I seem to have a potentially unhealthy obsession with working for: chip companies. While San Francisco is definitely the place to live if you want to work on social multitouch clouds, you have to come further south...

Thoughts on home
It’s my third week at home.
I am always glad to be here with my family, the cats, and all the things I came to rely on here in my youth. Seeing old and dear friends, revisiting old haunts, and reminiscing about all the moments here that made me who I am today.
But at this point, that’s about all I can do. It’s very unlikely that anything new will ever come out of here. All we...
Thus endeth the experiment
When iPhone OS 4 beta came out recently I took the opportunity to reformat my phone and clean-install it. At that time I also decided that I needed to wean myself off my addiction to mobile apps a bit, so I didn’t install any. In other words, for the last month or so my phone has been bone stock, no apps except for the ones that ship as part of the OS.
Of course, two weeks later I bought an...
This Is Why I Hate Wall Street People →
Here’s an idea to consider: Rather than infiltrate our lowly jobs, why don’t you take that hugebrain of yours and that renowned work ethic and become an engineer or a scientist or a doctor and actually create something of value? It would probably be more fun, potentially more lucrative, and you’d finally develop something that you could be proud of. We might even respect you...
