The new Trek film…

-Was very mainstream-friendly - perhaps not the direction we’re accustomed to seeing the franchise take, but probably the only one which will allow it to survive.

-Is probably in the top 5 movies ever if you measure purely based on “references per minute” - not just to other Trek films but to Star Wars, Lost, etc…

-Could have stated the original series theme much earlier (than the end credits???), and didn’t have to throw 400 modulations into it when they finally did

-Could have stated the Enterprise theme during the first shots of the Enterprise

-Had an astoundingly good Spock, played by Zach Quinto

-Didn’t need to reinvent the warp effect - come on, guys, it was iconic. I know you need to self-differentiate, but that’s just petty.

-Finally actually used some contemporary/popular music in science fiction. Thank goodness.

-Needed more Majel Barrett as the computer voice, but I guess they used whatever they got before she passed… RIP.

-Needed more Simon Pegg as Scotty. Delicious.

I’m just nitpicking, though. It was altogether delightful and well done. I’m glad it exists and I’m glad people are enjoying it. I will probably go see it in theaters again at least once.
