Not to worry

I am still hard at work setting up my room whose components and layouts I ruminated on throughout the summer. A newer, crazier YouTube video than last year’s room demo is coming, fear not.

Here’s a little update on progress though. The audio system is complete albeit with cheap cable - I ordered high end cable along with the speakers but it was backordered and will arrive soon. The Sierra-1 speakers driven by the Parasound amplifier sound simply phenomenal. If you sit in or close to the sweet spot, the imaging is simply phenomenal - you close your eyes and you can really imagine you’re at the symphony. These are some of the best speakers I’ve ever heard in my life.

I currently lack a projection surface, but a roll of screen material is in the mail which I then need to cut and mount in a retractable fashion. As such I have not been playing games or watching movies, but instead reading books and meeting people. Fascinating concept.

Also the Logitech Harmony remote that keeps me from having to think too hard every time I want to use the system works extremely well except when controlling the iMac (one of my media sources). It has some weird quirks which I find strange because an identical remote at home had no trouble with the AppleTV. Anyway fixing this probably just involves poking around at the IR code settings in the Logitech utility.

So that’s where that’s at. I also noticed something new about school, but I’ll describe that in more detail later.
