ST:TMP was criticized for too many long self-indulgent starship exterior + orchestral score sequences. But as nerdy HD candy… That’s perfect!

Also, it is unfortunate to note that this was an easy release for them to do. The original series and the movies were shot, edited, and mastered on film (practically infinite resolution). Releasing subsequent series (TNG, DS9) in HD would be considerably more difficult because though they were shot on film, they were edited and composited on standard-def videotape.

Speaking of entertainment, it’s pilot season in Hollywood. Personally I’m hoping Ron Moore’s new show Virtuality gets picked up. His work on BSG (which is airing its final season, for you nonbelievers) was nothing short of stunning and Virtuality sounds like an interesting premise.
